Prayer group and aid worker severely attacked in Kerala

Chalakkudi (Kerala in India), SVM News, July 15, 2007: An anti-corruption social worker and an active member of a Christian prayer fellowship was attacked at his house by a group of people at the village Koorkamattom near Chalakkudi in Kerala State in India on July 14.

Anthony Jacob (27) of Padinjrekkara House was the one attacked by the mob on Saturday around 10 at night. The attackers severely beaten him by iron pipes.

Jacob was seriously injured and immediately admitted at St. James Hospital, Chalakkudi.

There were two men came to his house first and asked for Jacob. The household told that he was sleeping. But the men said that they came to seek Jacob's assistance for a mortgage problem they were facing from a bank. So the household woke him up and he came out to meet the men. Immediately more people reached there by car and motorbykes and they all together beaten him severely.

Jacob's friends told to the Salem Voice Ministries (SVM) News Service that he had been threaten before against his christian activities and anti-corruption services.

Rev. Paul Ciniraj, the president of the Christian Ministers of the Churches of India (CMCI) condemned the attack towards Anthony Jacob, the anti corruption social worker and the prayer group.
